Ceilidh Dance Calling
Are you organising a party at which you’d like Ceilidh (Barn) Dancing? It’s very popular; adults and children alike love doing it. But you need music and someone to call the dances. Live Ceilidh bands are great but can be very expensive. Recorded music with a good caller is a close second best at a fraction of the cost. And that’s what I can offer.
I have always enjoyed Ceilidh dancing, or Barn Dancing as it is often called. There is something about the structure and positive energy of the dances that really speaks to me. Dance Calling started for me when an elderly caller who had called many Ceilidhs in our local village decided to retire and we couldn’t find an acceptable replacement. The idea of calling the dances really appealed to me and so I did some research, prepared myself, and tried calling a Ceilidh in the village.
I LOVED IT!
I haven’t looked back and I really enjoy doing the calling. I’m very relaxed about it - my main objective is to ensure that everyone has fun - and it’s a quirky, fun, challenge trying to teach dance steps to a room full of excited, partying people! Ceilidh dancing is a wonderful family activity and even quite young children can really enjoy it, often showing up the adults with their quick learning and energetic involvement.
I use CDs for the music and have my own PA system so I am able to offer Ceilidh dancing anywhere that has an electrical power point. I acknowledge that dancing to CDs is not quite as exciting as dancing to a Ceilidh Band but it provides a really good and flexible second best at a much more modest cost.
